Punjab cop held with 52 live bullets at IGIA

A Punjab police official was on Tuesday arrested with 52 live bullets at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here just before he was about to board a flight to Manila, a CISF official said. Inspector Atul Soni, was going to Manila on a Philippines Airlines flight when his baggage containing variants of live and spent bullets was detected by CISF security personnel at at T3 terminal. Soni, who said he was posted in Mohali, had 46 live rounds of 9 mm pistol, 3 live rounds of 7.62 mm rifle and 3 live rounds of .32 bore rifle in his baggage, the official said.

Four empty cartridges of 8mm pistol and an empty magazine of 9 mm pistol were also recovered from his baggage by CISF personnel guarding the airport.

“The passenger could not produce any licence for the recovered ammunition and hence he was handed over to airport police and was later arrested,” he said.

Soni, who was travelling with his wife, was arrested under the Arms Act.
